PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
After 20 years of devoting to his academia, Dr. Leonel Pereznieto Castro joined the professional practice (1988). He was partner of the law firm Ogarrio y Díaz, S.C. (1988-1993). In 1993 the President of the Mexican designated him as a Commissioner, becoming member of the founding team of the Federal Commission of Competition where he remained until 1996. In that same year, he joined the law firm Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C. as Of-Counsel (1996-2006) and years later he joined the law firm Jáuregui, Navarrete y Nader, S.C. as Of Counsel and head of the International Commercial Arbitration practice.
Member of the Mexican Chapter of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), member of the London Court for International Arbitration, Arbitrator for the International Center for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), for the American Arbitration Association (Roster of AAA Neutrals) and member of the CANACO´s and CONCAMIN’s Commissions. Panelist regarding the Dispute Settlement Mechanism set forth within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA.) With vast experience in the subject of arbitration since 1984. Member of the Arbitration and Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association and of the Antitrust Commission of the Mexican Chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce.
Member of the International Bar Association; of the Mexican Bar; of the Texas-Mexico Bar Association (former President); member of the International Academy of Comparative Law; The Mexican Academy of Private International Law and Comparative Law, (Former President); Member of the Advisory Commission on Private International Law of the Legal Board of the Department of Foreign Affairs (since 1977 to date) among others.
Expert witness in Mexican law before Courts of: California, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, and before the American Arbitration Association among others.
His areas of specialization are: International Commercial Arbitration, Antitrust, and International law such as the diverse aspects of international engagements.

International Commercial Arbitration.
Whose experience dates since 1984. Until now, he has participated in 43 arbitration cases in diverse roles: as sole arbitrator, as co arbitrator and as attorney. Likewise, he is part of the administration teams of two Arbitration Institutions (Arbitral Commissions): CANACO and CONCAMIN. The areas of arbitration he has covered are: joint ventures, International Agreements, construction and telecommunications.
Antitrust Law.
His experience dates from 1993 when he was appointed as a Commissioner of the Federal Commission of Competition. To date, he continues to pursue the subject in his professional practice. He has been in charge of merger cases (among others, the Bancomer-BBVA merger), antitrust cases (among others, the gas industry L.P.), unfair competition practices (latex industry) and various notifications regarding merger’s taking place abroad having legal effects in Mexico.
International Law.
His experience in this area began in 1972 and he has participated as consultant for the following areas: opinions and legal expert’s reports on Mexican law, (affidavits and depositions before diverse North American Courts), analysis of foreign commercial transactions, (contractual) elaboration of strategies to be followed as well as Letter of Credits, Secured Transactions, and Enforcement of awards and final decisions having legal effects within Mexico.
